yes it is still quite commonly used in big organisations i.e. local authority say environmental health deparment, first line rings on one extension and then anyone in the office can pick it up and if nobody answers after so many rings it goes to the next one and so on. When people go to lunch or whatever they can divert their phone to the first one or maybe to the ansaphone etc.
We have serveral Hunt Groups in my office.Although we all have individual extension numbers, there is a also single number that customers can call which cause all phones in that particulat Hunt Group to ring.Hunt Groups are often used in Call Centres.
