Backup Documentsand Settings

I am trying to backup my Documents and Settings through System Tools on my laptop, and have inserted a blank disk, but Windows won't allow me to do it. It says the filepath (D:/) is not valid. Can anyone tell me how to deal with this?

Have you put a compatible disk in?

I have put in a blank Recordable CD, if that's what you mean, Ethel.

I think it may be because the "backup" program doesn't tie into the CD/DVD recording side of things. If the contents of your "My Documents" etc will really fit on a CDR (I know that my laptop's "My Documents" won't), you could back up to a folder on your hard drive and then use your recording software to burn the backup to CDR.

If (as is more likely) your docs won't fit onto 1 CDR you could just do the above for your settings and manually back up your documents to discs.

There are (mainly commercial) programs that will write back ups directly to disc, but I don't have any experience of using them, I'm afraid.

Thank you for your answers. In the end, I just selected all My Documents and clicked on Send to...., then I chose the CD Drive. That was easy and they did fit onto one CD.
