but when I hit space after I have done it, it doesn't turn blue to make a link!!
When I copy and paste it does not turn blue either, but once you have posted your question/answer and you go back into the question/answer, the link should have changed to blue.
As Kerplunk says, copying and pasting the URL is all that is necessary. (It's important to include the full URL, including the 'htttp' bit).

Whether or not the link changes colour when you hit a space depends upon your browser. I think that it might happen with Internet Explorer but it doesn't happen in Firefox. (Where it does happen you can highlight the link and type something like 'click here' over it but, as I've indicated, this isn't possible in all browsers)

To check that a link will work, use the 'preview' button. You should then see your link displayed in colour.
