I have 2 questions i hope you guys & girls can answer me.
1.I am on Bt Broadband & part of the secrity package is Norton 2006.I did a full scan yesterday afternoon & everything was fine. However while working on the computer an hour or 2 later connected to the net Norton automatically started doing a full scan.Is this common?
2.At the bottom right of my screen down at the bar i have a symbol that looks like 2 monitors behind each other & there is a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it
that near enough covers the symbol. When i move my arrow over it it says it is my Local Area Connection. It also Says Status Limited or no connectivity. If i right click it i have the following options,Disable,Status,Repair, change windows Firewall setting (which i don't use seeing as i use the Norton firewall),Open network connections. What does all this mean & what am i meant to do?.Thanxs

Regarding your second point, havnt really come across this, but Im on broadband here and im not on a home network , its just purely a stand-alone PC, therefore any reference to Local Area Network/connection, I ignore - it appears to be prompting you to open up a LAN network and therefore if you dont have one, I would choose the disable status.- if this causes any issues, you can always revert back to Enable. as you may know the 2 monitors symbol is the internet connection to show the transfer of data from server to your PC, this would flash as the data is being downloaded/uploaded.
Hope this helps but sure someone with Norton may have a better idea if not.
Good luck

Hi gerry, I think alunrw has answered part 1 of your question fine.
The answer to the second part depends on how you connect to your broadband router. There are 3 main ways, wireless, ethernet and USB. Wireless and USB are fairly self-explanatory. Ethernet uses wires that have connectors at the end known as RJ45.
If you don't use ethernet, then it's ok to disable the ethernet port via the method you've already found. You can also prevent the icon from appearing by right-clicking it, choosing Status, then clicking Properties, then clear the check box at the bottom that talks about limited connectivity.
If you do use ethernet to connect to your router, post back here and let us know, we'll help you sort it out.
