i once saw a version of windows 'windows xp pro gold edition' for download on a website. had close up picture of the back of the box, which was full of spelling mistakes. this suggests to me that it is an altered version of windows, maybe the author decompiled and recompiled his own copy of genuine windows and added certain security flaws. maybe microsoft trojan manager was pre installed. i dont know. i didnt download it. im just saying that you can easily get a free copy, but it will more than likely be a f****ed version

Definately not legally. The files sharing sites will have it - but, as mentioned before, who knows what virus will be on there. Plus, you wont be able to activate it properly, so no updates. Up to you whether you risk it.

It isn't so much the program that's the problem; it's the activation keys.

I have an illegal downloaded copy of XP, and have installed on 4 different PC's in the past 3 years.When it came to activation, I simply phoned the number shown on the screen, and said I had just purchasd the computer second hand.Each time I did this I was given a new code to enter, and everything has been fine since.Its been about 12 months since I last did an installation, and I hear the Microsoft are clamping down on counterfeit products, so I am not convinced it would work if I tried the same today.

Yes it is.you can obtain a copy from a file sharing site.In most cases the program will be ok. From these same sites you can also obtain cracks that wil allow you to bypass the windows validation tool.It's a matter of choice and conscience.
