The best slideshow program for home-made picture CD's

I am making a CD of the slides from our childhood and giving it as a gift to my family. I've already scanned the slides in and am ready to go, but need to find a slideshow program that will be easy for everyone to use and will work on just about every computer. Some people have state-of-the-art computers, while other are 5 or 6 years old and have only 4 meg hard drives and 35 or so megs of ram. Does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks.

Yep. Use HTML. It's incredibly easy to knock up an HTML document that you can place on the CD which will load up the pictures by whatever mechanism you want: timed, click through, etc.
Any PC with a web browser can run it and it's free. If you want help with the document 'cause you're not too sure of HTML just drop me a line. :-)

Have a look at http://www.unblue.co.uk/helenbuckland and see if that's roughly what you're after. If so, I'll produce some HTML source code with some nice comments to help you on your way and then post a URL for you to download it.

That's exactly what I want! Thank you so much. The only think I'm not sure about is whether this can be burned onto a CD and doesn't require use of the internet by non-internet literate people. In other words, can they just open the CD and view the pictures without having to go on-line, as my father, for instance, has very limited net time in his ISP package. It is so amazing of you to do this. I can't tell you how great it is! Thanks again. Pat Beeson

Your web browser can view local HTML files exactly as it would view a remote URL. You'd just need to stick a runme.html file on the CD, and when someone double clicked on it, you'd get an HTML page of your choosing (maybe with some thumbnails), and could navigate the images in whatever way you wanted.

, there's a readme.txt file I've written in there to help you along. Just open up the html files in Notepad (open notepad and drag the files onto notepad) and have a look at the code. It's fairly self-explanatory and I've explained any finer details in the readme, but if you need more help contact me.
