If you are running Windows XP, click start, run and type msinfo32, then click ok.

Otherwise right click on the my computer icon and select properties

Thanks Mattie-
I have done this but I still don't know which bit of info tells me the pentium!!
like mattie said, it's in computer properties. Look toward the bottom where it says computer. It must be there somewhere. What gb are you looking for? The hard drive capacity or the ram?

I am going to be giving my PC to a pal, and her son needs one with pentium 3 in order to play his computer games. I said I would find out what mine was, but cannot find it written anywhere!

By computer in properties it says:

AMD athlon (tm) XP 2000+
1.66 GHz
480 MB of RAM
Is your my computer icon a shortcut with an arrow pointing to it on your desktop?
Question Author
No, I'm on AOL, so I click on START then My Computer from a menu that pops up
Ok then, you do not have a pentium processor, its an amd athlon. That would probably be ok depending on what games are being played with it. 480 mb of ram is a bit small for gaming though.

Would it be best if he just came and tried it to see?

Is there anythin I can do about the amount of RAM I have, or is that just the way the computer was made? Nothing to do with the amount of crap I have on the computer??!
You need to find out how much ram your puter can handle. probably 1gb. So to answer your question, Yes it can be upgraded. Also it always helps to keep the "crap" out of your computer. There are several programs that will do this for you and you will notice a world of difference.

I think my crap is self-induced.. programs I don't use... too many pics and music.... Wha prog could I use to help with this?
THANKS for your help peanut!
I usually suggest a program called crap cleaner. You can go to http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ and click on the top right to download latest version. After its installed you can select Cleaner on the top left and run that and then select issues and run that too. click yes for the backup option. Too many pics and music is unlikely to be a problem and the crap is always "self induced". If you decide to use crap cleaner and have and questions bout it, just come back to this post and ill try to help you. The crap cleaner will certainly help you.
byt the way, crap cleaner will not rid you af unwanted programs. it deletes cookies and useless registry entries and things like that. You need to go to add or remove programs to get rid of the useless programs you dont use.
I hate to be the scaremonger but if you've ever bought anything online or used internet banking then there will be traces of your personal details on your hard drive.

There are ways to get rid of this but they're quite technical, involve a fair bit of effort on your part and it's 1am so I'll not try to outline any of that right now.
I agree with Stevie - you need to FORMAT your C: drive first
Do you have your Windows CD still ?
If so - put it in the CD drive and boot on it (switch on the PC with it in place) - it should pick it up and should give you the option to install Windows - via formatting it
Worth noting that if you are intending passing your PC on to your mate, then the install of Windows you have on it should be uninstalled to remain completely legal. You are licensed to use that copy of Windows, but your mate isn't and the license is not officially transferrable. Have you both read the Microsoft 'End User License Agreement' ? If this then becomes your mate's PC he will need an operating system, and he might choose to buy a Microsoft license or use one of the may alternatives. The copy of Windows will remain licensed to you, and so you will be able to install on it any other PC you have (one other, not many).
As regards the gaming aspect, your RAM as stated at 480MB indicates that the motherboard has onboard graphics to which a small amount (32MB) has been allocated, rather than a separate graphics card. This would mean that it is largely unsuitable for playing graphics-intensive games unless you add a decent-sized card, assuming the motherboard is fitted with an AGP slot.
ram is how it was made, but be safe if a game needs a p3, a 2000 athlon with however much ram it has will do it fine
