Hallloooo,

Our computer has two hard drives which were c and d. We also have two cd/dvd drives which were e and f! The computer had a few things swapped/upgraded and now the two main hard drives are coming up as c and f which means basic things such as microsoft word are not working!Bah. How do we sort this out so that the required drive comes up with the right thing? It is all plugged correctly so this seems odd...........

What drive is "word" on? It sounds like your c drive should be working fine.
I ask because it is possible for you to change your drive letters. Not your boot drive though. I can tell you how to change f back to d if you would like.
Go to computer management in administrative tools
In the left pane, click Disk Maneagement
Right5-click the drive whose letter you want to change and select "Change drive letter and paths".

If you want to swap two letters which are already in use (say F and D), you will need to do it in 3 steps:

Change the current D to (say) J
Change the F to D
Change the J to F
