What is a Macro??

When I open certain excel documents it asks me whether i want to enable ir disable macros?!?!?! What the hell does that mean?? does it matter either way???

A macro is a small program that normally does something like a calculation, maybe work out the square root or a percentage.

They exist in all computer systems, not just Excel.

They are hidden from the user, and so COULD be hiding something like a virus.

If you are happy that the Excel spreadsheet is safe then you can enable Macros.

If you have been sent a Excel spreadsheet from someone you do not know then you need to be more careful that a Macro may be harmful.
