Have you turned compression on for some folders ?
You can turn it off as follows.
Right click on the folder name, choose Properties.
On the General tab of Properties window press the Advanced button.
There is a check box marked "Compress contents to save disk space".
Deselect this to turn off compression.

The box wasn't selected where it had the compression option...are you saying I should select that box, then deselect it? Because I selected it and clicked on apply and then it started to compress all my files which I'm not sure that I would want, so I stopped it, and now the folder which the files where in has turned blue as well! Worst case scenario...!
Hi behappy87 when I tried it I ticked the box for compression and it asked me did I want to APPLY CHANGES TO THIS FOLDER ONLY or APPLY CHANGES TO THIS FOLDER , SUBFOLDERS AND FILES ? ........I selected the last one , and if you do it in reverse it will undo the changes (I use XP) and in fact I went on to change all my doc's and pictures because by compressing them you make them a bit smaller and save space on your hard drive . You will notice no difference in your doc's or pic's and everything is undoable anyway
