Wireless Download Speed question?
5 Answers
I have 3 Meg broadband. I download a file at a transfer rate of about 260Kbps. FIne. No problem there.
Now I try to Download the same file using my internal wireless adapter instead of the ethernet cable. I get half the speed (130Kbps) and I am beside the antenna (signal strength excellent).
What speed should I be getting? If my wireless adapter can manage 56Mbps then I see no reason why it can't manage a paltry 260Kbps or more. Thanks.

What speed does the wireless connection claim to be running at? It is possible to force this to 1Mb on some adapters.
Go to Start, Settings, Network Connections and select your wireless connection. Properties, ensure 'Show icon in notification area when connected' is ticked (this will tell you how fast the connection is by means of a little blue/black flashing icon at the bottom right). Click Configure next to the wireless card and under the advanced tab there should be a setting do with speed / duplex.
