USB connectors are nearly always in awkward places and you can guarantee that you are trying to plug them in the wrong way round. Even if you mark them when you go to the next piece of equipment with a connection it is the other way up.

Why not get a USB hub or an extension USB, then you can put it where you want and very visible, sorted!!
