windows update

I need to do a windows update, as there are several critical updates & security updates, that the website says I need to do. I have done it in the past & I know what to do, but recently when i go it. I go through all the usual procedure by highlighting the one I want reading the agreement and. but when it comes to the download & install page it dont even start downloading, I have left it for a couple of hours while i'v been out only to come and find it's not even started downloading, can anyone help please in finding solving the problem. thanx

If you go to the Windows Update page ( http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.a
sp ) on other options click on Personalize Windows Update then tick the Display the link to the Windows Update Catalog then save settings. On the left you will now have Windows Update Catalog under See also. Scan your machine then take a note of which updates you need then find them in the Windows Update Catalog. Download the files to suitably labelled folder on your C: drive then run the updates locally. It is more of an effort but you can burn the updates to CD and use them on other computers (if you fancy).
