I bought my venturer 40gb audio player, of a carbootsale got it home and my compe would not recognise it, tried it in other comps still did not work, so I took it back the next week, the carbooter was knowhere to be seen, but there was another one who stands on a regular basis, who had a whole bunch of them, my dad bought one off him, and it works perfect, so I bought one the week after, and guess what?, yes this ones not working either, works fine if it is plugged into mains, once it is running I can take the mains out, and it carries on working.
However I can not start it up without being plugged in, all it does is the blue light flashes on and off, as though it is struggling to switch on.
Looks like it needs the mains to give it a boost to come on.
But the whole reason for me getting one of these is so I can take it out with me, I do not want to have too carry the mains adapter everywhere I go.
I have updated firmware this does not do anything, even tried swopping hard drives between the two cases but does not matter which drive is in which case they have the same problem, so I think it must be an onboard thing.
I would appreciate any help as too what could be wrong with either.
Where is the battery situated?, thought if I could unplug this then put it back it might help.

Sorted my problem, hope this helps someone else, if you switch your player on and the blue backlight just flashes and does nothing else, try plugging in the power supply if it works then, it could be the battery frazzled.
What I did is unsoldered the battery(found it, it is the blue square thing) from the old player that the comp did not recognise and soldered this in the new player (obviously unsoldering the other one first), and it works a treat, now no backlight flashing when turned on.
This might happen when your battery has seen its last days aswell?.
Which prompts me to ask, does anyone know where I can get a new one of these batteries, as I am sure one day I will need another.
Bye the way the solder job is easy it has two wires, black and red and thats it, all you need is a steady hand, so as not to catch the circuit board with your iron.
