Internet Security and Virus Protection

Buying a new Desktop PC and looking to install Virus Protection and/or Internet Protection. Which package would you recommend and why?

I use the following (all free)

AVG Anti Virus (get the "free" version)

Zone alarm firewall (get the free version)

Adaware spyware checker (get the free version)

WinPatrol - windows monitor (free)

My local techies swear by the AVG 'free' version.

I had a virus so severe I had to have my HD wiped and everything re-installed. They put the AVG on, and I've been trouble-free since, and I surf daily.

I also use AVG and upgraded to the paid version - not expensive. Updates are automatic together with e-mail reminders.
