I am on the student Union at college and we are looking for ideas for fundraising for Rag week (it's not till March but we need ideas) I was wondering if any of you lovely people had any ideas?

Hi, I used be be a Raggie :)
We used run Rocky Horror nights and Sex Fetish and Bondage Nights which always went down really well, held a slave auction at the latter.
We also had a load of the guys do the proper Full Monty Routine, that was very popular!
Quiz nights can attract a load of the more academically minded esp the lecturing staff.
Did a jailbreak - 24 hours to get as far away as poss without spending any money - but a bit dodgy these days...hitched from Aberystwyth to Glasgow in that time and know peple who managed to get abroad!
Balls used to be quite popular, give everyone a chance to dress up.

Do you do collecting trips and tours? If so whereabouts are you based? We used to go down south a lot as you tend to get more money there.
We used to do tours too for Marie Curie and Children in Need, travelled round in a minibus staying at people's houses overnight, used to raise loads of money.
Dressing up always seemed to help too :)
5 aside footie tornaments or Rugby 7's ones are good for getting the boys on board, payment for each team entered.
How about a local band night, get some up and coming but decent local bands to play free as a showcase for their talents.
A fashion show can get local retailers involved, can be good as a raising awareness thing too. If you have fashion students get them involved.
Business/Management students can be good to get extra help too with organising events for you as experience for them. Get the department involved.
Target smaller groups to fundraise within such as getting the debating society to organise a special debate (we had the Hamiltons once) with a fee to enter and a collection. Maybe the law dept could organise a mooting competition. Get their initiative going and money coming in with minimal work or costs on your part.
Maybe get some competition going, whichever department or team can raise the most money.
A local marathon but you would need somewhere to hold this.
Pick on things that students would welcome and pay for eg people cleaning their flats, cooking them a proper roast dinner/meal, ironing etc... Maybe hold an auction or raffle and see if local places will offer prizes or vouchers eg meals, alcohol, cinema vouchers etc... for the publicity.

First of all, congrats on getting your fundraising started! Raising support for a worthy cause can be super rewarding. But obviously, if you're not an official non-profit, it can be really tricky finding a good way to build support for your cause.
One route you might want to consider: setting up a homepage for your group on a fundraising website. Having a group homepage online makes organizing and fundraising infinitely easier ... And though the majority of fundraising sites require you have official non-profit status, many good ones only require that you are a group - and will give you plenty of the tools you need.
For example, one good site is Meet Up (www.meetup.com), who allow you to fundraise directly to your account, and register a group without having an official non-profit status - and they cover groups around the world, while giving you some tools to do event management. But the tools they offer are a little limited outside of fundraising.
Another good option would be Empowered.org (www.empowered.org), a platform that also helps small groups fundraise and organize (regardless of non-profit status). They also work for international groups - and offer a fair amount of useful tools, like the ability to organize your group or to create volunteer activities and fundraising campaigns for more targeted ways to raise support.
