Upgrading my pc...
3 Answers
I want to upgrade my pc from an athlon 1.3Ghz chip to an athlon 2.6Ghz chip. The problem is that my machine is a Compaq and I am unable to find out what make & model the motherboard is due to the fact it is well and truly bolted to the case! Am I going to be disappointed or can anyone help me out? The exact model is a presario 5000 series, 5146EA. Cheers all!

asp It sounds like you may have to replace you're current motherboard if you want to change to that processor due to the FSB speed's are different.

Agree with mac309. Also, I think some compaqs have odd designed mainboards which are different to mainboards that you buy from, say, PC world so I would check this first. Perverse as it sounds, it may be cheaper to buy a new processor, mainboard and case then rip out the floppy, CD, HDD etc from your old machine.
