Laptop mouse

I have just inserted a new optical mouse into my laptop but I cannot control it.What have I done wrong - the instructions simply say plug and turn on ?

Have you restarted the laptop? Does the mouse light up underneath?

Is it the same USB port that you were using previously? If not, do you have another piece of USB hardware that you can try in it's place.

Does this mouse work on any other computer?

If none of that works, it could be faulty and you might need to get a replacement!

Using XP? Try just restarting your computer.

Is it a USB mouse?
