Hellppp!! No sound recording device!!!!!

Hi, my computer has started to tell me that there is no sound redording device, so I have no sound except an audible beep if it thinks that i have clicked on something once to many times!
does anyone have any ideas.

Hi, First thing to look at is in START / CONTROL PANEL / SOUNDS AND AUDIO DEVICES. You may have disabled or muted in error. ...or try.... START / RUN and type in dxdiag. the computer will then check all multimedia..hope this helps
