Replacing PC CD drive with DVD drive.

Greetings!
I have changed drives in a computer from CD-ROM to DVD/CD R/W.
The comp won't recognise video files, although it plays a downloaded WMV vid without any problem.
Any idea what I am doing wrong please?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.What exactly do you mean by "the computer won't recognise video files?" Do you mean that it won't play DVDs? Most DVD drives come with a DVD player of some sort, did you install the software that came with the drive?

I finally worked out that I do not have the right software to decode DVD's.
I am going to try:
<http://www.avsmedia.com/DVDPlayer/index.aspx&g t; to see if it works.
I really only need something to make DVD's play on Windows Media Player.
