First off, it is necessary to mention that my wife and I are of the 'older generation' but feel that we are still able to comprehend matters; if things are explained to us. Although it's not easy keeping pace with the speed of modern technology.,

My question therefore may appear to have come from a halfwit; but I would appreciate any advice which could be forthcoming on the matter.

How does one put into an answer in AB.. a 'link' in red; which when 'clicked' will lead directly to the 'site' concerned.?.............Ron.

P.S.Until a few weeks back, I didn't know that it was possible to 'paste' a question or answer into AB. Consequently, I am somewhat indebted to Ethel who, considerately, gave me the answer. Unfortunatetly, my only means of giving a 'link' to my earlier question, is to say it was in this section, under the heading of "Access to AB" and dated 25th of October, ........R.

Well, when you press "Post An Answer "a box will open and you type your answer in the box and press "submit".
Is that any help ?
Hello again.

You are trying to post a 'clickable link'.

This is easy - as always, if you know how.

Have the 'post an answer' box open, ready for the link.

Open another window with the page you want to link to.

Copy the address in the address bar of that page - highlight and right click, copy.

Return to the answerbank page, and paste the address in the 'answer' box.

To paraphrase:
Copy the address of the link,
And paste in the answer box.

:)

If I have not been very clear, please say.
Find the link that you want to give as part of your question/answer. Highlight it (drag over it with your mouse), then press ctrl-c (that's hold down the control key, and press the c button, then release both buttons).

now, go to give an answer/question here, and as you're typing, press ctrl-v. bingo!

hardy49, Thanks, I've got that bit.

Ethel , What you are telling me is that it is a pasting job;
similar to what you have already taught me.
I had hoped it was a simple 'click and drag'.

fo3nix, I liked the idea of highlighting and dragging;
but then it got too complicated from my point of view.

Anyway folks, I am very grateful for your replies; and will have a go.........Ron

Ron - have a go here. :)

It will not show the red underlining until you have actually posted the answer.

Put the cursor at the start of the address -
Right click (the address will now be highlighted) - copy

Put the cursor in the box
Right click - paste.

Ethel, You must think I,m stupid; please do , because the moment I try to open another page in AB, I loose what I'm already on.
I don't think you're stupid! I do need to know which browser you use - IE6, the new IE7, Firefox or something else.

For now, practice actually posting the link by copying the address in the address bar of this page.

Do it exactly like this.

1. Start to write a reply in the answer box.
2. Copy the address in the address bar. (no need to open another page - this is just a practice)
3. Paste it in the answer box.
4. Click submit.

O.K. Here goes Ethel;-

http;//www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Technology/Question321323.html

Somehow I think it's going to go wrong.
Question Author
I thought it would be a failure.

I copied it on notepad and pasted; But it doesn't work.
How very odd! You've certainly got the copy and paste part right.

Unless you typed a part of the link manually. The colon after the http does not look right - it looks like a semi-colon, which will not work.

Did you copy and paste it or type it?
Our answers crossed there.

Do you use Skype, msn or yahoo instant messaging?
Question Author
I don't really know I assume it's MSN. You are right it's a semi colon. I'll try again. I typed it all manually.

Well you've managed to post a clickable link!

But you have done it a very hard way.

Now, if only you can master the art of highlighting the address bar with your mouse, right clicking and click 'copy'

And then paste - you'll be well away.

Good for you for persevering.

I don't normally give out my msn address - but it's

[email protected]

if you want to add me to your contacts.
Question Author
Goodness gracious me; it worked. I now realise that one has to be very accurate in one's typing.

Thanks Ethel, you have been very patient with me.

They do say "you can't teach an old dog new tricks".
However, I think you have proved the reverse to an O.A.P.

I am now doubly indebted to you. Two lessons I've had
for free. ............I appreciate your kindness......Ron.
It's a real pleasure, Ron.

By the way - I'm well past retirement age as well.

Question Author
Hurrah!!!!
Question Author
You are right...It's so easy when you know how.

I did the last one by highlighting.

Thanks again........Ron.
Ron - another tip:

If you're already on answerbank and you need to link to a different site, or a different question within answerbank...

In internet explorer, press CTRL and N to open up a new window, then find the page you want to link to and copy the address as you've already done (right click - copy). Then you can close this new window and your original question will still be there underneath to paste into (right click - paste).
