webcam gone kaput

i only have two usb ports in this computer and generally i use one for the modem and one for my usb pen. occasionally though i unplug the pen and put the webcam in that port. which normally works. tonight it didnt. everytime i opened the camera, it closed itself. i had a little message pop up and tell me that the bandwidth isnt wide enough or something. my friend tried opening his camera, and i could view his ok. anyone got any idea why mine isnt working?
