I have just purchased broadband with a free wireless router from AOL. They told me that to use this as wirelss I would need to purchase wireless adapters. I am going to connect router to my PC which I don't actually want to be wireless but I do have a laptop which I would like to use along with the PC. Do I only need get one wirless adapter in that case for the laptop. I am a total novice in this game and don't really understand all the technical jargon. Hope someone can give me a little help and advice. Thanks very much.

What model / type of wireless router is it ?
How old is your laptop?

Most laptops sold now are already wi-fi enabled and don't need adaptors.

If you continue to connect the desktop by wire you do not need a wireless adaptor for that. If it is close to the router, then wired is the best possible solution for it.

So, what is the make/model and age of your laptop?

It is a Thomson Speedtouch ST585.

It is not a new type laptop. It is an ACER and does not have Wi-fi.
You need a wi-fi dongle.

This is the sort of thing, but I am not recommending this model/seller/price:

That is all you need. :)

Thanks very much, that was really helpful. I know what to get now. I was just confused about whether the PC needed a wireless adapter as well, but it doesn't, so again thanks very much for your help.
