I am thinking of buyind digital camera, was wondering if anyone had the answer to..
,how many pixels make up a mega pixel?
as i this will help when buying, thanks

It depends on whether you're buying or selling!
Because digital implies binary, mega is usually taken as 1,048,576 ( 2 to the power 20 ), but some makers use the more simple unit of 1,000,000.
The more pixels you have, the bigger you can enlarge the picture before seeing 'grain', providing always that the lens is good enough!

Simple answer, a million

So a 1Mp camera is one million pixels.

Generally the more (genuine) megapixels in a camera the better.

Some makers "lie" and talk about interpolation where they use computer technology to "guess" at the missing pixels, so a 3mp camera they call 6mp.

Make sure it is a genuine mega pixel if you look at a camera.

If you're just after a general all-purpose camera, take a look at the optical zoom (ignore anything about a digital zoom), take a look at the battery life (try and get a camera with a Lithium-ion battery as they last longer than just regular AA batteries), and also make sure the megapixel rating is at 4 or above. Most these days are anyway, so you'll be fine in that respect. a 4MP camera will print suitable to A4.

Check out the Fuji F30, Casio S600, or pretty much any Canon compact that they're doing right now.

Also make sure you get a memory card with enough room on it. You'll want one that's at least 256mb, ideally 512mb or 1gb.
