ps2 stuff

okay, so a while ago i got this kinda connector cable type thing to plug my ps2 game controller into my computer/laptop. so i stuck in the usb slot, installed the driver, and that worked fine. but then i put one of my ps2 games in my cd/dvd drive, and it spun around quite loudly, and then didnt do anything. is there problem? or is the controller supposed to be used with other games (pc games)? im just wondering because if there isnt a problem, it would be useful to play ps2 on my laptop. please say something useful.
