sounds like you're being cold-called by an automatic device from india or some such. the numbers are always withheld. just in case someone IS on the other end, i usually give them three seconds to say something, then invite them to do something anatomically difficult and hang up.

Hi Sincnoel,

Thanks for your quick answer.

The call isn't a withheld number it's from Aberdeen in Scotland.

I just don't answer numbers I don't recognise then when they leave a voice mail I just get a hi it's...... could you call me back on the above number.

I know it's not a cold call as the know my first name.

I just would like to know who it is before I call them back or to help me decide whether or not to call them back.

Cheers

Hi

I done a google search for 01224 622756 and nothing came up, but I tried 01224622756 and this came up

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=0122462 2756&meta=

I'm at work so couldnt check fully but it looks like a payphone numer. Either way, I would ignore until you know who you are dealing with...

Or call back - on reverse charges! Let them pay for the call.

:)
01224 is the code for Aberdeen.
It's probably a debt collecting company.

Although the list, which Herc linked to, shows it as a call box, many call boxes have been removed and the numbers reallocated.

As I'm not worried about phoning any number that has an ordinary (rather than premium or international) STD code. so I've just done the easiest thing and dialled it.

The phone was answered straight away by a guy called Dean who was far keener to find out who I was than to tell me anything about himself or who he worked for. (I told him I was calling on behalf of a fictitious friend. I could hear him rummaging through his paperwork, looking for the name I gave). He did confirm that he was phoning from a company but stated that he had to speak to the correct person as the nature of the business was a 'personal matter'. All of that is perfectly consistent with the practices of debt collection agencies.
