Internet connection

When I try to go online (either O.E. or IE6) about 60 percent of the time I
get all the usual dial tones and handshake followed by finding my user name
and password, followed in turn by an apparent connection, but I am told
after a few seconds that the site/page was unobtainable. I am assuming that
since for the other 40% of the time all is peace and joy that my settings
must be OK. Another odd thing is that if I go in through the 'dial up
connection' icon on 'my computer' I get through first time 90% of the time.
I am using Onetel as my ISP. Anyone out there with any enlightenment?
I have tried e-mailing there service site but think it must be staffed with
politicians. I had to send them the following:-
For the Attention of Phil Worms.
Phil,
I truly feel honoured and indebted for the speed with which you have
personally dealt with my problem. (see below for detail).
Now I will grant you that you have done absolutely b***r all, but that does
not detract from the speed at which you did it. This response must go into
the record books somewhere. The feat is of Herculean proportions. Should
they ever run an Olympic Apathy and Inactivity competition there could only
be one winner.

The only way to easily avoid it until they track down where the error is, is to use a different telephone number (if one is available) If one isn't, you'll have to live with the russian roulette of connection or go to broadband (if available).
Nice letter by the way.
