1) not all torrents give good speeds. to test what your line is more capable of, try downloading the openoffice torrent from their website and downloading that.
2) your uni network will, if anything like mine, totally fly compared with your home network. This is especially true of bittorrent: the protocol gives more download bandwidth to those people who also upload more, and the uni network probably has a much greater upload speed than your home connection.
3) make sure you're using good settings for bitlord. I've never used it, and use azureus instead. but if you can control such features, try these:
