My CD drive (Q) won't play anything

It was working fine, but when I just put in a CD, it made a horrible noise, and when I took the CD out there was some kind of smudgy stuff on it. Now when I put in a CD, my players don't recognise that there's a CD in there, and no tracklisting or other info comes up. I thought about using a lens cleaner (don't know if they work with computers in the same way as a stereo) but it doesn't recognise that either. Is there anything I can do? It can't be broken, I haven't even started paying it off yet!

If it is an old cdrom drive. the motor inside could be on it's way out and you may need to replace it.

It's pretty new, only 7 months old. I ended up getting an engineer out, as luckily it's still under warranty. They're putting a new drive in. Cheers anyway.
