Burn a DVD

Hi there I have been trying to burn a DVD using Nero Smart Start.
I have not done this before and am trying to get it done for a xmas present.
I go through the whole rigmaro and it seems to be burning but then when it is just about to come to the end of the burn a windows C++ message appears saying that it has requested to end the programme.
Any help much appreciated, thanks !

Are you trying to burn a commercial dvd that is copyrighted?
