I bought a 4GB USB memory stick.
It is recognised by XP and allows picture files to be copied across. When I access the folders later I get
a message "cyclic redundancy check data error" or alternatively "this drive is not formatted do you want to format now".
Tried formatting again. It is driving me mad.

Try it in a different usb port - or try a different device in that usb port.

If you can be sure the usb port is working correctly (although I'm sure it is) try copying the same files to a cd, dvd or even upload to photobucket, tinypic or similar.

If there is no problem - you have a faulty memory stick and should get a replacement or refund.

Thank You. I tried the same files to a different memory stick and OK so it does point to a fault in the 4GB USB Memory stick.
Now comes the problems because I bought it on EBAY.
Oh. Did it come from China?

Hong Kong !
Oh no! I bet you paid a fortune in postage.

You have been ripped off.

Did you pay by PayPal?

Did you sign for it when it was delivered?

Tried all that and it works for a while then when you think it is OK it plays up.
PCWORK Your link above says
Many times USB devices, especially pen drives are faulty. In such cases, get a new device as a replacement from the manufacturer, if the product is under warranty.
The Ebay seller has offered a PAYPAL credit and does not want it returned which is very trusting. Lets see if it happens though.
