My new laptop came installed with Windows XP Professional With Front Page,.
Would I be in trouble if I decided to uninstall that Windows and install Windows XP Home ?

You would not be in trouble but it seems a bit pointless. Why do you want to do it ?

XP Pro and Home are very similar (you would hardly notice the difference), but Pro has extra features so I am not sure why you want to use Home.

As far as I know there is nothing that Home can do that Pro cannot so it seems a waste of time.

Also noteyou cannot install Home over the top of Pro so you would need to format the hard drive, then install XP Home, then install all the laptop drivers, then install all your applications.

Seems a lot of effort for almost no gain.

The reason I want to change is because when I try to instal Microsoft updates I get a message saying the updates were unable to be installed and Sevice Pack 3 in a box,and than a message saying I needed to find a folder or file containing PROPLUS.MSI or something like that.When I have tried to instal the Service Pack 3 I am told to instal the original XP cd which I do not have.
How can I get the updates installed then ?

Proplus.msi sounds like something to do wih Office and not XP. There's a Service Pack 3 for Office XP so it must be that.

Can you try a reinstall/repair of Office?

I'll give that a try - I think I must be getting confused with XP and Office.

Windows XP and MS Office are two totally different products.

If you have the MS Office CD you could try to unistall all of MS Office and reinstall it. You should then be able to download the Office service packs.

Yes I do remember you trying to help me before but I still ended up getting the same result !
I think I may know what could have happened.When my husband bought the laptop we asked a computer engineer ,who has done work for us before,to set it up so I could use the broadband.Well,he started saying how good it was,and would I like this and that installed,and I just ended up saying "yes"!!! Well,if he is the one that installed the Office,that would solve at least part of the problem wouldn't it ?
