RealPlayer not connected
2 Answers
I often listen to the archive on Radio 4 and if it is fairly recent it is fine but when it is an older one and it goes to RealPlayer to play (on current ones it uses another BBC Radio Player) it does not work. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling RealPlayer and I can see what the problem is, it says it is not connected to the internet even though it is. I have tried everything but it refuses to believe it is connected to the internet ! Any ideas anyone. Thanks in advance.

The default settings in RealPlayer mean that it tries to connect to the internet every time your PC makes an internet connection. Firewall software flags up a message that RealPlayer is trying to do this. If the user clicks 'deny' permission' and also selects 'remember this setting', they will later find that they can't access streamed files in the RealMedia format.
Take a look at your firewall's settings and see which programs are denied access to the internet. You'll almost certainly find RealPlayer among them. Then just follow the procedure for removing the block. The exact process will depend upon your firewall but try highlighting the reference to RealPlayer and right-clicking to see if there's an option to allow access to the internet.

I think that is it, brilliant thanks Chris. I am really Lady P but I had to take on a new identity as none of my questions or replies have been appearing for the last few weeks and I only just realised as I usually only look at them on 'my profile' and did not realise they were not actually appearing !
