I have recently moved in with my dad who has a computer and is on talk talk, is is true that I need to connect his internet package to his computer and my lap top is a wireless router if not then what do I need?

If I understand you correctly.

Connect broadband modem to router and your dad's pc can connect to the router either by ethernet cable or wirelessly, and your laptop wirelessly, if it is wifi enabled.

I would seriously recommend getting as far away from TalkTalk as possible, it took me 2 months to set up a wireless router with them, in the end I was told they do not support them and so I swithed to NTL. Which is a little strange, as on the TalkTalk website it tells you how to set up a wireless router identical to the one I purchased. So, whether I was just fobbed off or not is a mystery, maybe you will be more sucessful...
