what is a good and what is an average CONTRAST RATIO for a hd ready lcd tv. im looking at a 42 in lcd. is bigger better or does it reach a point when the average watcher would not notice any difference. any help much appreciated. many thanks.

Bigger is better, and I think it will be some time yet before LCD TVs reach the sort of figures where an average viewer wouldn't notice the difference.

A video of someone wearing a white shirt is a good subjective test of the contrast ratio for comparison purposes. With lower contrast al the creases and folds in the material, as they move, will tend to disappear.
