Exclamation mark in device manager??

Under 'Other Devices' in device manager I have a 'PCI Simple Communications Controller' with a yellow exclamation beside it. Does anyone know what this device is? I've tried right clicking and reinstalling the driver but get an error saying the wizard can't find the software. What software do I need and where from? Thanks

This device is probably for an internal modem or maybe a network card.

If its for a modem you would need the make and model of modem before you search for the drivers.Similarly if it is a network card

I've got an exclamation mark in the same place.

On my PC it refers to the internal dial-up modem, which is out of use. If you've got a broadband modem or an external dial-up modem, you can probably ignore the warning if it's referring to a modem you don't use.

Thanks guys. I'm having problems getting my PC to recognise my phone when connected with a USB cable, I thought it might be related to the exclamation but I guess not...

Kerplunk - do you have any suggestions on how to get around this? I've tried deleting PCI controller from device manager but phone still not recognised and PC tries to reinstall controller when I reboot! It's driving me mad and any help would be much appreciated.
