Downloading
2 Answers
I am new to computers and live in a remote area with no access to courses. I cannot find any literature explaining what do in downloading programmes etc. Could someone most kindly explain exactly what has to be done. Are the actions (1) Download and (2) Install and, if so, what must be done? Does the computer detect for itself when something is downloaded and run it itself when necessary, or do I have to initiate it in some way? All help will be very much appreciated indeed. Thank you.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Yes and yes. You usually have to click on a link on the web page and a download manager is initiated. It will ask whether you want to run it from the original loaction or save to disk (do the latter and save it to the desktop so you can find it easily). Once downloaded it will ask whether you want to "open" (or run the program) or not. If you run it it will usually go through an installation wizard in which you most often just click yes (OK) to everything. If not then you can install the application (again via a wizard)by simply double clicking it (remember its on your desktop).
