burning a CD rom from a cassette tape

Have a cassette tape that I want to burn onto a CD, PC has a mono socket [for microphonme input] Can I use this? would you store it as a wav file then burn to CD. Any electrical shops - West Sussex area -that stock the mini [walkman size] plugs or leads? now that Tandy's have sold up. Advise please!!

Haven't done it for ages, but there's normally some sort of program that comes with your soundcard that allows you to use "line in" or "microphone" inputs to record WAV files which you can then convert to CDA with your burning program. Windows comes with "Sound recorder", or get a free one here http://www.webattack.com/freeware/gmm/fwaudioedit.
html . You should be able to get leads from Dixons (you may need to buy end plugs that will convert to the right size), I have found that �1 shops often have a reasonable selection, too. If not, there's a Maplins in Brighton, or try their website http://www.maplin.co.uk/ .

I've been doing the same thing today. I did it the same way that you suggest. I used Goldwave to record the cassette as one long wav, and then used the 'copy to' feature to split it into tracks. These can then be burned as normal. I used a 3.5mm male jack to 3.5mm male jack lead I picked up in a TV repair shop.

I always use a program called RipVinyl (www.ripvinyl.com). It records the tape/record using the gaps between the tracks to seperate the recordings as individual wav files.
