using a pc with a high def tv (1080p, 720p) i have used one with a interlaced display and its hard to read evan at 40"

Make sure you have the exact scan mode set on your tv, that should help.

sorry i didn't explain well. i have 40" rear projection old school telly (unheard of in most houses and pubs 13 years ago) and of course it is interlaced making windows text hard to read.
i am wondering if i got a hdtv that is progressive scan if it suffers similar problems
