Auto date

In Microsoft word, how do I turn off the automatic date.
When I open an old letter, today's date appears. I want the date to appear when I typed the letter originally.

Go to INSERT then DATE and TIME and uncheck the update automatically box.

Try this

On the Insert menu, point to AutoText, and then click AutoText.


Select or clear the Show AutoComplete tip for AutoText and dates check box.

ps I am still on office 2000 if none of these work which version of word are using

Just tried your 2nd suggestion, unfortunately that is not working either. I will try the link you have sent me.

Open Word then Try Tools-Options-General- Uncheck the box "update automatic links at open"

I think it was that when I had the problem

I have done that, but I think I need to log out, so that it recognises the changes. Fingers crossed.
