Document deleted.

By mistake, a Word document went into the recycle bin, which was emptied. Is there any way to retrieve it? There are loads of free trial programs on Google, but they are all very complicated and technical. I used to have a Norton floppy disk which did this with no trouble on an ancient PC, but it doesn't work with Windows XP. Any advice will be gratefully received.

If you haven't used Word much since then there's a chance you might find it. if you ever saved it somewhere in the first place before you deleted it. Open word from the Start Menu, programs list and not a shortcut to a document. Once open, click file and it may be at the bottom of the list, no promises mind!

I tried recuva, and was amazed at the huge number of deleted files. It works fine with XP. The one I need wasn't there, alas. Well, it will teach me to back po my stuff, won't it ? (Camioneur is French for lorry driver. Now we're wondering if he is French or a well-educated Brit).

Camineur would strictly translate as lorry driver perhaps but in modern English terms a haulage contractor would be nearer the mark perhaps.

Interesting puzzlesRus got Recova to work under windows 2000. I've tried all versions and still won't read hard drive boot sector. There are bug reports about this on their forum. It's only a beta program still.

Recuva is certainly the easiest free/trial program to use. I tried several, and some were unintelligible. The old Norton recovery program was excellent, but it's not compatible with anything after the early versions of Windows. What the ones you have to buy are like I've no idea, and I'm not risking good money to find out.
