Are there any computer devices that can take an audio input and automatically turn it into text on the screen? Someone I know claims to have had one of these devices that she used for writing a report once.

Viavoice seems to be pretty popular for this...you need a microphone and plenty of patience for this as the computer takes a while to learn you vioce by getting you to repeat lots of words...Once up and running they are apparently easy to use though.
I wouldn't want to put you off, Violaine, but a few years ago, after I'd spent many hours 'training' my voice-recognition program, it still went on producing material on-screen that I could probably have sold - unaltered - as scripts for the Monty Python team!

I'm perfectly sure Sft is right and that things have moved on somewhat since then...I certainly hope so, having myself just given up on it. By the time I'd corrected all the nonsense, I felt it'd have been quicker just to type what I wanted. Good luck! I suspect you're going to need it.
