Why is my laptop beeping at me?

Just recently my lsptop has begun to beep at regular intervals while it is being used. I keep it on during the day and it is normally connected to the internet too.However it seems only to beep whenever I have been using it during the evening. I have changed all of the alert sounds in order to locate what is happening but it continues to beep.The beeps occur roughly every 3 minutes and are not seemingly connected with a particular action. HELP

Is it running out of power? Is the battery failing? Is the power adapter failing? Do you have a loose power connector?

Thanks J2b .It is the same beep that tells when the battery is running down -but every time I check the power meter it says 100%remaining.the power connection shows up on the task bar and shows a connection.Ive whittled the beep down to a point where Ive been using the laptop over a couple of hours almost continuously.Although for the rest of the day it has been switched on it has not been used much during that time.It only seems to beep in the evenings.

Is the CPU running too hot? It may be on during the day but inactive so when you use it at night it overheats.

I think you have it there J2B . It fits in with the usage pattern . I will have to ...ummm ..switch ...it...offf -oh nooooo :(

You may find that the CPU fan (which cools the processor) switches on and off. If this does not work correctly the CPU overheats. Try going into the BIOS and change the power saving settings so the CPU fan is always on (minimum power saving settings).

Hi Saw your post yesterday but didn't have an aswer beyond the obvious battery low situation Now mine's doing the same! Will try the CPU solution, but could it be viral if we both have it happened to us recently?
