Solely for the inconvenience of consumers and the profitability of the film companies. Thus a UK consumer might have to wait for the cinema release of a movie while its already out in the US on DVD and they could buy it from Amazon for $10; and when it does come out in the UK on DVD it's missing most of the extras on the US DVD and costs twice the price.

Films can be released in different markets at different times and at different prices. Luckily there are now multi region DVD players and hacks for others.

So Darth, did Santa bring you a shiny new DVD player? And what films came with it?
