I have my laptop connected to a mixer (and then an amp) using a 1/4" jack to phono lead. Everything is fine and dandy and sounds great.......up until I connect my ac adapter to the laptop, after which I get a constant buzzing sound.

Is there anyway of avoiding this - will top quality cables help?

when ever i've had a buzz on a sound system it's normally due to an 'earth loop'. check the power leads to the mixer and the amp have correct earth wires and are connected properly. Is there an earth / ground connection on either that needs a wire.
