Can anyone help me to get into the modern world.
I don't know the difference between ipod and mp3.
I want to buy one or the other to download music from my P.C. ( when I find out how )
I know I would like one which includes :- Radio, Lithiam battery, Voice recorder, Recharge from mains, & Backlit.

Any info.to enhance my education will be appreciated

Ipod's are mp3s - that is just the Apple brand name for their mp3 player.

mp3 is a form of audio compression.

an ipod is an mp3 player.

there are many players available with the ipod being the most iconic.
Before some pedant jumps in and points out that iPods don't generally use mp3, I'll explain that MP3 Player is pretty much accepted nowadays as a generic term for any machine that can play one or more types of compressed music file - in fact many of them can also play wma and uncompressed .wav files.
