Do I have a bug/virus ......?

Recently I cannot open docs and progs downloaded from the internet. Everything else is going great just the downloaded stuff is inaccessible....do I have a virus of something like that...does anyone recognise the symptoms.? Grateful for any help.

What happens when you try to open said dowloaded files ? Do you get any error messages ? What type of files are we talking here - or is it all files ?

exe files ....I downloaded a wordprocessor and got error message when I tried to run it after installing it. Other files from a program I have on my disc sent to me by friends come up with cant open file.....
