Mouse misbehaving

My mouse is misbehaving. It is one of those wireless ones and everytime I try and use it the arrow icon shoots over to the right hand side of my screen and stays there. I use the 'finger sensor pad thing' to bring it back to the screen again but as soon as I use the mouse it scuttles off to the right again. any ideas?

Does it need charging?

No, put new batteries in it, pressed the connect buttons and it has been sitting in its holder for two days, still not joy.
