ive just bought a canon ixus 70 and since it comes with a basic memory card i was wanting a new one. Its a 7 mp camera so which size would be best? i was thinking 1GB or should i go bigger? also which brands are best but not too pricy :)

A 1GB is plenty big enough.
If you print out pictures at 6x4 you will not need the Camera set on such a high def and you should literally get hundreds of photos onoto a single 1GB card.
In the cameras instruction booklet it should give you a table which shows if have a 1gb card - how many photos you get to the card depending on the settings of the camera. This should help you.
