Has anyone got any experience of using Avid Xpress DV using an AMD or similar processor? The Tech Specs for the program on Avid's website state that they recommend using a Pentium 4 processor. Would using a cheaper brand, make any difference to the running of the programme?

In terms of processor power (the number of 1's and 0's a PC can handle) the bigger the better when it comes to video editing. Avid only recommend certain processor speeds because it makes their software look good.
You will find esp. with Avid the more effects, dissolves and video tracks you have the slower your m/c will run.
I have 3.5 installed on a 1.6GHz Athlon with 500MB ram although not speedy by todays standards it suffices for what I need to do.
